Blonde balayage with natural roots from the Klusplatz salon

Colour by hand

Balayage
in St. Gallen, Zürich
and Küsnacht

Soft, natural colour transitions, painted by hand – without a hard regrowth line.

Good balayage looks as if the sun had been at work all summer: soft, luminous and without a hard regrowth line. In our salons in St. Gallen, Zürich-Klusplatz and Küsnacht, our colourists specialise in balayage, babylights and Airtouch. Balayage including a gloss starts at CHF 365.– for long hair; an appointment takes 2.5 to 4 hours.

What is balayage?

Balayage comes from the French for “to sweep”. The colour is not applied in even strands with foil but painted freely by hand onto the surface of the hair. This creates fluid transitions from the natural root to lighter lengths and ends. Because each section is placed individually, your colourist works with your cut, your natural colour, your skin tone and the way you wear your hair every day.

Balayage, highlights, babylights or Airtouch?

We often combine techniques, for example balayage in the lengths with fine babylights around the face.

Balayage from our salons

Work from St. Gallen, Klusplatz and Küsnacht.

Who is balayage for?

  • for a natural look that does not appear “coloured”
  • if you want to recolour less often, as the roots grow out softly
  • for dark hair that should catch the light without going fully blonde: in caramel, honey or mocha, for example
  • for the first grey hairs, in combination with Grey blending
  • for short hair: with a bob or lob we place finer sections where the light falls on the cut

How it works

  1. Consultation: We look at your hair, your colour history and your inspiration pictures. Feel free to bring photos.
  2. Lightening by hand: Your colourist paints the colour on section by section and lets it develop individually. We work with professional products from Schwarzkopf Professional and L’Oréal Professionnel and protect the hair structure.
  3. Gloss: A toner refines the shade, whether cool, beige or golden.
  4. Cut and finish: On request, we refresh your ends and blow-dry your hair.

Duration: about 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on hair length and starting colour.

Frequently asked questions

What is balayage?
Balayage comes from the French for “to sweep”. The colour is not applied in foils but painted by hand onto the surface of the hair. This creates soft transitions from the natural root to lighter lengths, without a hard line.
How much does balayage cost?
At Cannazza, balayage including a gloss starts at CHF 365.– for long hair, without a haircut. The same guide prices apply in all three salons; the final price is confirmed in the salon.
Where can I have balayage done in St. Gallen?
At our salon at Katharinengasse 8 in St. Gallen’s Old Town, a minute’s walk from the Marktplatz. Balayage there is done by Sandra and Yara.
How long does a balayage appointment take?
Depending on hair length and starting colour, allow 2.5 to 4 hours, including the gloss and finish.
How long does balayage last and how often do I need to recolour?
Because the roots grow out softly, balayage lasts several months. A gloss every 6 to 10 weeks refreshes the tone. A new balayage is usually only needed after a few months.
Is balayage damaging to hair?
Any lightening puts strain on the hair. We lighten gently in stages and protect the hair structure during the treatment. With the right care at home, your hair stays glossy.
What is the difference from highlights, babylights and Airtouch?
Highlights are applied in foils from the root and give an even, lighter effect. Babylights are very fine strands for a delicate shimmer. With Airtouch, the short hairs are blown out before lightening, which gives particularly fluid transitions. Balayage is painted freely by hand.
